About

About Me

I’m Andrew Spencer, a photographer from Kaikōura. I’ve been shooting since the days of film rolls and burned CDs, and while I do all kinds of work, weddings are something I always enjoy. Real moments, real people, and a good excuse to stay out past sunset with a camera.

I use bold colours and aim to capture genuine feelings with no pressure. My goal is to create a connection, not just pose you for photos. I want you to enjoy being photographed, even if it’s not your favourite thing.

I’ve shot many weddings, from mountaintop elopements to beach parties and backyard celebrations. I love helping couples show their true selves in photos, without weird filters or awkward poses—just beautiful, authentic moments.

When I’m not taking pictures, you might find me cycling on Kaikōura’s backroads, searching for the perfect light, or listening to music with too many tabs open. I enjoy good coffee, don’t mind bad weather, and love living in this beautiful coastal town.

If this sounds like the photographer you want, let’s talk!

“Andrew was our photographer at our ceremony. He made us both feel relaxed when getting our photos taken and made us laugh! The photos turned out amazing, and I had them back not even a week out from the wedding. He also sent us a USB stick in a cool wee box.
Would highly recommend Andrew to anyone and everyone!!
Thanks again Andrew!.”

Some of the Tools I Use

If you’re the curious type, here’s what helps me do my thing:

  • Cameras: Canon R5 II + R6 II + R3 (plus a backup or two, because weddings don’t wait).
  • Lenses: Canon’s RF Holy Trinity — because weddings require both wide for the epic, long for the intimate.
  • Workflow powered by: Photo Mechanic, Capture One, Aperty, and Affinity Photo — fast culling, lush colour, clean finish. All made on a Mac (because wedding days have enough surprises — I don’t need them from my computer).
  • Gallery Delivery: Via Sytist — clean, private, and easy to use. Looks good on phones and mums’ desktops.
  • Image Package: Delivered with Filemail — full-res and web-ready files, zipped up and ready to download (and yes, there’s plenty of time before the link expires).

I keep things reliable, minimal, and well-tested — so I can focus on moments, not menus.

Bouquets of pale roses and baby’s breath are arranged on the hood of a vintage Rolls-Royce, with the car’s emblem and grille visible—perfect for a fun and relaxed wedding photography session with a Kaikōura wedding photographer.
